Our School

Established in 2002, Growing Minds Preschool is excited to celebrate 23 years in the Sellersburg community. Kerri Eckert and Robin Long, along with our teachers, strive to teach the whole child as well as to encourage family and community involvement.

Our Philosophy

To provide a nurturing child-centered learning environment.
To assist the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of the preschool child.
To provide positive group and individual interactions with children and adults.
To foster a love of learning.
To encourage the individual talents of each preschool child.
To encourage sharing and cooperation.
To develop individuality.

Our Daily Program

The children have many opportunities throughout the preschool day to explore and to create in a warm, nurturing, and non-threatening atmosphere. Children are encouraged to choose activities during learning center time and to actively participate in music, story, and circle time, which are brief teacher-led group activities. Science center, blocks, math and reading manipulatives, books, art, dress-up and cooking are just a few activities available to your child daily. We believe your child needs both structured and unstructured types of play to maximize learning and social- development. We strive to provide a quality play-based, student-centered learning environment in which every student can grow and develop successfully at an individual pace.

Our Program includes

Handwriting Without Tears

This handwriting program is developmentally appropriate and hands-on specifically designed for the preschool child. When learning handwriting, your child will be exposed to a variety of manipulatives and writing tools such as mini chalkboards, roll-a-dough letters, flip crayons, wood pieces, and stamp and see screen.

Service Learning Projects

At Growing Minds Preschool, we want our students to learn what a great feeling "giving" to others can be.
Previous Projects »

Daily Obstacle Course

Students go through an obstacle course each day that helps them to develop balance, gross motor skills, and vestibular skills. All of the above help children to use both the right and left sides of their brain.

3 Year Old Program

What our parents say

Growing Minds has been apart of our lives since 2016. 4 kids total and my last one is currently attending this amazing preschool. We discovered the preschool a couple years after moving from Indianapolis. At first I was just interested in the social aspect for my oldest daughter and a way to possibly meet other Moms for myself. Little did I know how much this school would benefit my children academically, socially, and promote independence. The teachers go above and beyond each week. My children were more than prepared for kindergarten. They could independently write their names, count to 100, know their letters and letter sounds and so much more. So far 2 out of 4 of my children have attended the stretch class before heading to kindergarten. My youngest will as well. It is something I highly recommend if your child has a birthday close to the cutoff or they simply just aren’t ready for elementary. It was the best decision we ever made. I now have a 5th grader, 2nd grader, 1st grader, and soon to be 3 year older preschooler. All 3 are honor roll students. I give all credit to GMP for setting them up to be on the right path. The teachers we have had are incredible and have become great friends. They truly care for our children’s success. They have become more than a preschool. They are more like family to us. Forever grateful we made the decision to send our children to Growing Mind’s Preschool. Plus an added bonus is I have met the best Mom friends ever.

4 children attending Growing Minds
As a parent, you want the best for your kids and that is exactly what you’re getting at Growing Minds. They are not only prepping our children academically, but socially as well. This school holds such a special place in our hearts because the teachers have laid the steppingstones for our boys to love school. It is evident how much work and love they invest in their classroom. We appreciate the small class sizes and that each room is equipped with two teachers. Our favorite part was being able to volunteer in the classroom and given online access to view pictures of their everyday activities. This was an investment we will never regret because we made lifelong friendships here. We cannot thank Growing Minds enough for highlighting all the special traits our boys possess and encouraging them as they grow just as they are.
The Wolf Family
2 children attending Growing Minds
Growing Minds has taught two of our children for 5 years total and the results have amazed us. Both children entered kindergarten much more advanced than we expected. This was a huge advantage for their social and intellectual development entering the next education levels. We noticed a great increase in both of our children’s personal confidence and positive social interactions because of Growing Minds. Without Growing Minds, our children would not have been as prepared for their next steps in education and would not be showing the advanced traits that they are. We are overly thankful for the manner of kindness, patience, and the level of professionalism the teachers and staff used to help grow and develop our children.
The Baker Family
2 children have attended Growing Minds
We have 3 children. Our oldest daughter loved Mrs. Long's and Mrs. Latham's classes. She was more than prepared for Kindergarten and has thrived in 1st grade. Our son has enjoyed Mrs. Long's and Mrs. Lindquist's classes. We have seen tremendous growth in his abilities, and he is ready to start Kindergarten next year! We have no second thoughts that our youngest daughter will start at Growing Minds when she turns 3. Our kids love Growing Minds and still talk about the experiences they have had. We feel it has been worth every penny.
The Johnson's
2 children have attended Growing Minds
Growing Minds Preschool is by far, the BEST in Sellersburg. My daughter looked forward to school each and every day. The atmosphere and learning environment is optimal for all young children. The staff at Growing Minds take interest in reaching each and every child's academic growth. My daughter learned her letters/sounds, nursery rhymes, sight words, how to read, how to write her name, social aspects, manners, and much, much more. My husband and I were always at ease knowing that our daughter was cared for, safe, and in a place that facilitated her future success. Thank you Growing Minds for a job well done!!
Shelly Everhart
Kindergarten Teacher and child attended Growing Minds
My two boys and two girls have progressed beautifully as little people in each program from ages three to five years old. As a parent, it makes me happy and secure to know my children have grown up in a safe and nurturing learning environment that encourages the development of the whole child. Growing Minds is more than just a school it is part of my extended family.
Sara Landers Lacy
4 children have attended Growing Minds

My family has had the pleasure of sending all four of our children, now ages 6, 10, 12 and 14 to Growing Minds Preschool.

Having been a teacher, I was selective when choosing a preschool for my first born and toured various facilities before choosing GMP. I loved that each teacher at Growing Minds was a certified educator with early childhood teaching experience.

I also liked that the preschool embraced "Handwriting Without Tears" and focused on teaching the many different facets of handwriting including directionality, fine motor skill development, and hands on practice with various tactile materials (shaving cream, play dough, etc.). Many of my children's future teachers have given positive feedback regarding their handwriting.

Growing Minds is very family oriented and volunteers are welcome to sign up in advance to help in the classroom which was very important to our family. We also attended many different holiday parties and helped on field trips to the local library and police station.

The gym at the school is fantastic for indoor recess during the winter and inclement weather; GMP has many different types of toys to play with in the gym such as scooters, bouncy balls, trucks, hula hoops and more. The outdoor playground is also wonderful and is the perfect size for preschoolers. Play is a large part of a preschooler's development which GMP embraces.

All four of my children were more than ready for kindergarten, both socially and academically. They learned to love school during their preschool years which has translated to a love of learning during their elementary and middle school careers as well.

We adored our children's teachers at Growing Minds and are so grateful for the love, time, and effort that was poured into each of our children. We have happily recommended the preschool to many parents over the years; many of whom have had fantastic experiences as well! Thank you, Growing Minds!

Jenny and Ryan Higbie
Parents to GMP Graduates Nathaniel, Marin, Ella and Will

I am fortunate enough to have gained a unique perspective into Growing Minds; as a parent and a teacher. I have seen first hand from both of my daughters attending the excellence of this preschool. They incorporate the perfect mixture of all areas needed to be successful in school. This includes daily school routines, academics, fine motor skills, and promoting essential independence. All while having fun! Furthermore, as a Kindergarten teacher in our community, I can confidently say students coming to me from Growing Minds are prepared both academically and socially for school. We are so fortunate to have this great preschool in our community!
